An old list is new again
I almost overlooked it. Again. A page at the end of my old travel journal from 1992. A little list. A forgotten list. A lonely list.
We covered a lot of ground on that backpacking trip at a steady pace. It was always my intention to return. I kept a list, in my journal, of places I wanted to visit someday:
- Lagos, Portugal
- Menorca, Spain
- Morocco
- Cinque Terre, Italy*
- St Gilgen, Salzkammergut region of Austria
- Bacharach, Rhine River, Germany
*Cinque Terre is the only place I visited, ever so briefly, on my backpacking trip (see Monterosso).
It is my handwriting. Otherwise all is a blur. Who gave me these recommendations? Why did I note these particular places? What was I supposed to see there? It is a short list so presumably I curated, or perhaps these were the only names I remembered by the time I retrieved my journal at the end of a long day of touring.
No matter.
These are my first set of travel goals.
I would love to hear from you, my family and friends, any suggestions on these six places if you have visited. My preference is not to travel to destinations that are tourist heavy – so please share any tips on travelling off season or nearby places that may be less frequented.
And, my friends, if there is a destination you have always wanted to go to, give me shout!
Travel goals set. Places identified. All other details to be determined.
