Street Style Crêpes at La Parisienne Crêperie
I love crêpe stands in France. You saddle up to a window, order a savoury or sweet treat and minutes later… voilà! You are holding a freshly made crêpe wrapped and portable for munching as you stroll.
A classic peripatetic snack.
A perfect way to start my blog. And an easy walk from my house, even though I am not in Paris. Heureusement pour moi, La Parisienne Crêperie has street style crêpes in Bronte village, Oakville.
There is no order window so you need to walk inside the restaurant to place your order. Mais c’est une bonne choose. Stepping inside this intimate bistro will transport you momentarily to France with vintage Parisian posters and French music playing.
🎵Non, rien de rien. Non, je ne regrette rien. 🎵
Walk up to the casual bar and ask to order a street style crêpe. On my last visit, I did not need to consult the menu. My craving was clear.
Salted caramel. Or call it by its name – Jules.
Jules is a simple crêpe that highlights the delicate flavours of an expertly made crêpe. Warm crispy at the edges, unctuous house-made caramel sauce, and a dusting of icing sugar. Classique.
The cook popped her head out of the kitchen when my order was placed. Apparently there is a man who comes in every day and orders a Jules. She was checking if I was her daily patron (let’s call him Jules for simplicity). This crêpe is good enough to eat every day. Don’t take my word for it, Jules knows!
The street style crêpes are to be “enjoyed whilst hot and fresh”. Eager to follow their advice, I was barely two steps out the door when I took my first bite.
I finished my Jules gazing out at the harbour a few steps away, savouring every warm bite and sweet aroma. The paper cone has different perforations on each side so you can have fun adjusting the cone as your crêpe gets smaller. Admittedly, mine did not last long. It really is best hot and fresh, so who was I to resist?
No regrets.
